- CMC ICOS Biologics has big plans for former ICOS plant in Bothell The biotechnology plant once operated by ICOS Corp. has been remodeled by its new Denmark-based owners who say they also plan to expand the staff.
The 15,000-square-foot facility has been remodeled and given a new infrastructure by CMC ICOS Biologics.

- Andreas Fibig named new chairman of Board of Management at Bayer Schering Pharma Andreas Fibig, currently Senior VP at U.S. pharmaceuticals company Pfizer, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer Schering Pharma effective September 1, 2008.

- Beckman Coulter announces second quarter 2008 results Beckman Coulter announced total revenue of $798.3 million increased 15.7% over second quarter 2007. Net earnings were $47.8 million and non-operating expense was $8.7 million versus non-operating income of $29.8 million in the prior year period.

- DuPont Danisco and University of Tennessee partner to build ethanol pilot facility DuPont and the University of Tennessee announced a partnership to construct a pilot-scale biorefinery and state-of-the-art R&D facility that will be located at a PDU research facility that enables both experimentation at larger than laboratory scale.

- Applied Biosystems reports fourth quarter financial results Applied Biosystems reported net revenues of $609.0 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008, an increase of 9% over the prior year quarter of $557.3 million. The net effect of foreign currency on net revenues was a favorable impact of approximately 5% compared to the prior year quarter.

- Invitrogen announces second quarter 2008 financial results Invitrogen announced results for its second quarter ended June 30, 2008. Revenues for the second quarter were $368 million, an increase of 14.3 percent over the $322 million reported for the second quarter of 2007.

- Lilly reports second-quarter results Eli Lilly reported net income and earnings per share grew to $958.8 million in the 2008 second-quarter compared with second-quarter 2007 net income of $663.6 million. Sales increased 11 percent, to $5.150 billion.

- Celera reports fourth quarter and fiscal 2008 results Celera reported net revenues of $43.4 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008, compared to $10.2 million in the prior year quarter. Celera reported a net loss of $96.8 million compared to a net loss of $8.0 million for the prior year quarter.

- Genzyme reports strong second-quarter 2008 Growth Genzyme reported that revenue increased 25 percent to approximately $1.171 billion from $933.4 million in last year’s second quarter. Net income was $69.6 million compared with $83.8 million in the second quarter a year ago.
