Position Summary:

Seagen’s new cGMP manufacturing facility “project Launchpad” is being built in Everett, Washington, just North of Seattle. Launchpad will be a greenfield build encompassing end-to-end manufacturing capabilities for biologics and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).

The Sr. EHSS Specialist will work directly with functional areas and the EHSS Operations Team. The Sr. Specialist will be responsible for partnering with staff from R&D, Manufacturing and other sites as needed, to promote a strong EHSS culture, execute company EHSS policies and programs, and ensure compliance to all applicable local, state, regional and/or federal regulations. This position requires a high degree of flexibility and solid EHSS program knowledge.

Responsible for developing, implementing, and administrating a group of environmental, health, and safety programs. Assist in compliance with all federal, regional, state, and local EHSS regulations. Support the EHSS site leads and provide EHSS customer support. Follow and implement all management system requirements, including adherence to standards.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assist the site leads in the overall development, evaluation, administration, and implementation of EHSS policies and programs
  • Through collaboration with EHSS Operations team, assist in the management of site activities, which impact areas of EHSS regulatory compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Provide regulatory guidance and administration support on all EHSS regulations to impacted groups
  • Collaborative authoring of site-specific operating procedures for EHSS programs
  • Provide non-routine problem solving for Facility Management, Scientific Services, Engineering, R&D, and manufacturing groups
  • Provide management assistance in implementing management systems, risk assessment, setting goals and targets for all EHSS programs having significant risk and/or severity
  • Works within team to ensure the health and safety training program meets or exceeds regulatory requirements; may develop and present safety training to Seagen staff, contractors, and new hires Integrate the EHSS Continuous Improvement initiative through development of industry leading practices and procedures
  • Integral member, occasionally acting as Chair, for the site EHSS Committees
  • Participates and assists management in Hazardous Materials and Emergency Response Team activities, including drills and response
  • May be asked to represent Seagen during EHSS regulatory inspections in conjunction with the EHSS management
  • Works with management to maintain metrics, monthly updates, and creates health and safety committee meeting minutes for distribution
  • Assist in the implementation, and continual improvement of the ergonomics program
  • Appropriately and in a timely manner addresses and triages all work orders assigned or in collaboration with other functions
  • Assists in the development, maintenance, and support of the hazard communication and chemical hygiene programs
  • Supports the hazardous waste program by providing information to lab staff and coordinating hazardous waste shipments as needed
  • Periodically reviews the electronic chemical inventory system for accuracy and coordinates reconciliation of the inventory with appropriate groups
  • Performs and coordinates environmental testing including air quality, vapor monitoring, effluent monitoring, and potent compound surveillance, requiring collaboration between research and process staff, consultants, Toxicology, Facilities, and outside vendors
  • Responds to emergent facility safety issues such as HVAC disruptions, power outages, chemical or biohazard spills
  • Support environmental compliance and sustainability programs/initiatives
  • Provide required, specialized training to company employees. Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Safety, or Biology plus 5 years of experience in Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in R&D or manufacturing setting (preferably EHSS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A strong background in the following areas is required: disaster recovery planning, SDS generation, potent compound programs, occupational health, hazardous materials, ergonomics, and EHSS training
  • Strong understanding of Chemical and Biological development (GMP and non-GMP) and laboratory operations
  • Familiar with the regulations pertaining to Department of Ecology Large Quantity Generators
  • Familiar with pertinent international, federal, state, and local regulatory guidance/requirements including OSHA, WISHA, FDA, CDC, and ISO
  • HAZWOPR/DOT/IATA Training required or conditional within 3 months of hire
  • Work on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative is required for resolving problems and making recommendations
  • Some after-hours and weekend work may be required

The hiring pay range for this position is $103,000 - $133000 per year based on skills, education, and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
